Confidence
A general character trait I think everyone should develop is confidence. Confidence is knowing what you’re good at, and the value you provide. It is acting in a way that conveys others.
Virtues are dispositional feature of character. They make us good and make us do our jobs well-they affect our character. Confidence is definately a virtue because its a natural expression of ability, expertise, and self-regard. People that are confident, not because they are always right, but because they are not afraid to take a stand.
Being confident doesn't nearly mean you are cocky or conceded. Confidence is different from the other virtues we talked about in class because it is more about you and how you feel about yourself. Confidence means you are secure with yourself and you know your strengths and weaknesses.
Without confidence, fears and doubts hold us back. We start feeling worried and afraid to make a mistake. Confidence helps us try new things and not be afraid to do them. It just helps us feel better about ourselves and helps us get to know ourselves better.
In this case the Barbara Argument states that:
- All confident people are virtuous.
- All people that know themselves inside and out are confident people.
- Therefore, all people that know themselves inside and out are virtuous.
In a nutshell, confidence shows that you love yourself. People with confidence don't care what others think about them and they have a strong view about themselves. Nothing wrong with that!
confidence is a good virtue to have
ReplyDeleteI like how you tried to differentiate between confidence and cockiness because people tend to think they are one in the same. I think you could talk more about the difference because there is a fine line between confidence and cockiness. Many of the attributes that you give to confidence sounds like cockiness. You could also talk about how being confident affects others and how confidence brings positivity to society. You could talk about how Confidence leads to people to become more self aware and this will help to boost self esteem. Persons with high self esteem tend to be happier, kinder and more thoughtful to others. Great job in giving your take on confidence as a virtue.
